In the primaries today I was stumped by having to vote for a number of obscure public offices-- water reclamation commissioners, judges, party officials. I could not bring myself to vote by name so I skipped voting for them. Yet I feel that I missed out on a precious opportunity to have some effect on how we are governed. So what I propose is that a site be created where candidates submit statements of 10 minutes reading time or so. At least this way there would be SOME basis for voting. Also a matrix of organizational endorsements could reveal generally where a candidate stands on issues.
